In 2004, the Ontario Human Rights Commission clearly stated it is a child’s right to an inclusive education. However, reports show that a large percentage of children continue to be excluded from regular education in Canada.

Research shows that including students who have a disability in regular classrooms in neighbourhood schools provides many long term benefits. For the child who has a disability, this includes:

  • a positive impact on their learning
  • social inclusion with children
  • increased likelihood of employment as an adult
  • increased income as an adult
  • increased participation in their community

Inclusive education also has a positive impact on the rest of the student population, including providing all students with invaluable lessons in cooperation and respect for diversity.

Inclusion at a young age promotes life-long inclusion. In fact, it becomes a natural expectation for all.

  • important relationships are developed at a young age
  • inclusion in schools is a building block leading to citizenship

Kids belong together. It's the right thing to do!
