ODSP Income Support Print E-mail

The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) Income Support is an Ontario government program that gives money to adults who have a disability. The money comes every month and is to be used for housing, food, and clothing.

You may qualify for ODSP Income Support if you:

  • have a substantial physical or mental disability that is expected to last one year or more 
  • live in Ontario
  • have little or no income
  • have little or no assets such as a large savings account, stocks, or bonds
  • are 18 years of age or older.

You may also be able to get ODSP Income Support if you:

  • are 65 or older and receiving disability benefits from the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), but are not eligible for Old Age Security (OAS)
  • live in a psychiatric facility
  • live in a facility under the Developmental Services Act or in a home under the Homes for Special Care Act, or
  • are about to turn 18 and currently get a benefit called the Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities Benefit.

ODSP Income Support provides these supports and benefits for:

  • prescription drugs and basic dental care
  • wheelchair/mobility device repairs and batteries eyeglasses
  • hearing aids
  • diabetic supplies
  • special diet allowance
  • money for transportation to attend medical appointments.

 

How To Apply for ODSP Income Support

If you applying for ODSP Income Support, please note that there are two parts to the application process.  Part one is an assessment of your financial situation.  Part two is an assessment of your disability and health status.

To begin the application process, you must contact your local ODSP office and ask to set up a meeting.  You can do this in Windsor-Essex County by calling the ODSP Income Support office of the Ministry of Community and Social Services at 519-254-1651
