There are different provincial programs and funding supports that are made available to adults who have an intellectual disability living in Ontario.

Each program has its own requirements and benefits. Please see below for details on how you can get connected.

Assistive Devices Program

The Assistive Devices Program (ADP) is an Ontario government program that provides funding for those with long-term physical disabilities. Devices covered by the program are intended to enable people to increase their independence. The Assistive Devices Program pays a portion of the needed equipment, the user pays the rest.

Developmental Services Ontario

To apply for supports and services funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services, people and families must contact Developmental Services Ontario (DSO). These supports and services include residential services and supports, activities of daily living services and supports, community participation services and supports, caregiver respite services and supports, professional and specialized services and person-directed planning and supports.

Easter Seals Canada

Easter Seals is dedicated to fully enhancing the quality of life, self-esteem and self-determination of Canadians with disabilities. Easter Seals has National Programs that allow persons with a disability to receive either free admission or a significant discount for their support person at movie theatres, attractions across Canada and even transportation using VIA or Greyhound.

Home and Vehicle Modification Program

The Home and Vehicle Modification Program (HVMP) provides funding so that people with physical limitations can do basic home and/or vehicle modifications. The program was established by the Ministry of Community and Social Services and is administered by the Ontario March of Dimes. By reducing or eliminating life safety risks, HVMP modifications enable children and adults with mobility restrictions to continue living in their homes, avoid job loss, and participate in their communities.

ODSP Employment Support

Many people who have a disability can work and want to work. ODSP Employment Supports will connect people with a community support provider, like Community Living Windsor, to help people find and keep a job. Employment Supports under the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) can be accessed by or on behalf of a person who meets the disability definition. This is allowed even if the person is not entitled to receive income support because he or she does not meet the standard of financial need.

ODSP Income Support

The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) Income Support is an Ontario government program that gives money to adults who have a disability. The money comes every month and is to be used for housing, food, and clothing.

To begin the application process, you must contact your local ODSP office and ask to set up a meeting. You can do this in Windsor-Essex County by calling the ODSP Income Support office of the Ministry of Community and Social Services at 519-254-1651.

Passport Funding

Passport is an avenue of direct funding that enables adults who have an intellectual disability to pay for help with daily living and respite. Passport was designed to enhance opportunities for individuals who have an intellectual disability, who have left school, and who are seeking access to community participation supports.

Special Services at Home

Special Services at Home (SSAH) is a family directed program funded provincially by Ontario's Ministry of Community and Social Services. It is available for children up to the age of 18 years with an intellectual disability and children with a physical disability.

In Windsor-Essex County, the administration of the Special Services at Home program is overseen by Family Respite Services, with service being delivered through three local agencies: Family Respite Services, Community Living Essex County and Community Living Windsor.
