There are many groups across Ontario who work tirelessly to ensure that people who have an intellectual disability have the same opportunities and are treated as equal citizens.

These groups are committed to sharing information, raising awareness and calling for action so that people who have an intellectual disability can live well as citizens in community.[/vc_column_text]

Windsor Essex Family Network

Windsor-Essex Family Network is a network of parents, brothers, sisters and friends who believe in the inclusion and well-being of children and adults who have different abilities and challenges. They share information and experiences with each other, provide emotional and practical support and develop briefs to tell government and others what is needed and design information to help other families on their journey.

Windsor Essex Brokerage for Personal Supports

Windsor Essex Brokerage for Personal Supports is funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS) to provide information that is personalized for adults 18 years of age and older with developmental disabilities in Windsor and Essex County. “Brokerage” offers Facilitation and Planning Support adults (over 18) having a developmental disability who are looking for a different or unique way to work towards their life goals and dreams.

Legal Assistance of Windsor

Legal Assistance of Windsor (LAW) is an interdisciplinary clinic combining legal and social work professions to meet the multi-faceted needs of the low-income community in Windsor and Essex County. LAW is a joint service of the Faculty of Law, University of Windsor and Legal Aid Ontario.

Family Respite Services

Family Respite Services works with families in Windsor/Essex County who are caring for individuals under the age of 18 who have intellectual, physical, or mental health challenges.

ARCH Disability Law Centre

ARCH Disability Law Centre is a specialty legal aid clinic. They defend and advance the equality of rights of person with disabilities.

Community Living Ontario

Community Living Ontario is a provincial association that promotes citizenship, belonging, and equality of people who have an intellectual disability.

Family Alliance

Family Alliance Ontario is a group of family members who offer their knowledge and experience to help other families. It also provides an opportunity to network with others. Their belief is that all people have abilities, interests and dreams that are worth pursuing.

Individualized Funding Coalition

The Individualized Funding Coalition for Ontario supports the self-determination of persons with disabilities. They believe that all people should have control over decisions concerning where they live, with whom they live, with whom they associate, and how they spend their lives. They have been working to make individualized funding a choice for people.

ODSP Action Coalition

The ODSP Action Coalition advocates for improvements to the income and employment supports provided by the Ontario Disability Support Program.

People First Canada

People First of Canada is the national voice for people who have been labeled with an intellectual disability. As a group they advocate for human, citizenship, accommodation and language rights.

People First Ontario

People First Ontario is an advocacy group for people who have an intellectual disability. They promote equality for all persons, teach people about their rights and abilities and help people who are trying to speak up for themselves and make their own decisions.

Special Services at Home and Passport Coalition

The SSAH & Passport Coalition is a group of individuals, families, organizations and agencies dedicated to ensuring that families in Ontario receive the meaningful SSAH & Passport support they require.

Cerebral Palsy Group

Cerebral Palsy Group is an online resource for anyone who has been affected by cerebral palsy, birth injuries, or brain injuries.

Up About Down- Windsor Essex Down Syndrome Association

Up About Down is an organization of people committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.
